Rapport, Mike (2024) The Black Cockade and the Tricolor: Space and place in New York City's responses to the French Revolution. Age of Revolutions: March 4. ISSN 2770-8322

Abstract

This article applies theories of space and place to the partisan politics of New York City in the early American Republic, as it responded to the political impact of the French Revolution. It focuses on the symbolic appropriation of civic spaces in the city as competing political tendencies engaged in a clamorous debate about the significance of the French Revolution for the American future.
